CEDAR Audio launches a stunning new real-time Spectral Analyser

CEDAR for Windows Spectral Analyser

12 March 1999

CEDAR Audio is delighted to announce the release of its new real-time Spectral Analyser. This has been developed specifically to accompany the company's buzz removal and noise reduction products, but will run equally well on any CEDAR for Windows v2 system.

Many features make this product special:

  • Unlike most analysers (which rely on FFT technology) the CEDAR Spectral Analyser is analogous to a bank of 1023 parametric EQs which can have their spacing and bandwidth tailored by the user. This allows you to zoom in on the audio, applying all 1023 bands to as little as 20Hz for a superb 0.02Hz accuracy.
  • The Analyser will resolve spectral details that lie as close as 0.2Hz to each other, and is perfectly capable of picking out buzz and hum frequencies that exist well below the signal power. (This resolution equates to a 'Q' of 100,000 at 20kHz.)
  • An FFT analyser would require approximately 500,000 points to achieve the same resolution as the CEDAR Spectral Analyser, and (ignoring significant implementation problems) would introduce a delay of nearly 12 seconds into the audio. Most current FFT analysers use 65,334 points.
  • The screen refresh rate is 20Hz on a suitable PC, offering smooth real-time analysis even at maximum zoom levels.

Developer, Dave Betts, says of the new analyser, "I am very pleased with this development because, firstly, it employs techniques never before used in the audio industry, and secondly, I don't know of any other real-time analyser that gives you a better feel for the harmonic structure and content of an audio signal. The Analyser's ability to zoom in on any part of the audio signal is unsurpassed."
