CEDAR VoicEX 2 - better than any other plug-in I've tested

1 August 2025

Since 2012, Alex Hombach has been working full-time as a hypno-coach. This means that his voice is the main tool of his profession, and he really understands the importance of sound. He now uses CEDAR icons to help provide the best experience for his clients, as he explains here.

"I make recordings for my clients in an untreated room with large windows, so street noise is a constant companion. In 2019, I recorded some podcast episodes that were damaged by a damaged lav mike, and because I had no idea how to set the levels. I’ve now started to repair these using the new CEDAR icons, as well as re-work those that I’ve already edited."

"I’ve tried a lot of plug-ins to reduce noise, but none has come even close to CEDAR’s products. A couple of years ago I tested CEDAR Studio 9, but it was simply beyond my budget, so I’m really thrilled that CEDAR has decided to make some of its products available to a larger audience. I now have VoicEX 2 and I love it. It’s not yet perfect but, like the original VoicEX, it creates the fewest artefacts of all the plug-ins I’ve tested… usually none, and only in very sub-optimal recording conditions. I was also very pleasantly surprised that VoicEX 2 also works wonderfully as a ‘de-room’ or ‘de-reverb’ tool; again, better than any other plug-in I’ve tested."

"For me, the natural sound of the spoken word is extremely important. I hate artefacts, and I don’t understand how many other content creators don’t hear or don’t seem to care about them. If you use professional-level microphones and recording gear, you should make certain your noise reduction doesn’t ruin everything and make you sound like a beginner."
